Employee Wellness Program in North Bay
Invest in the health and wellness of your employees. Get a healthier, more motivated, more productive workforce in return. The Next Step Fitness Centre offers flexible corporate fitness programs for North Bay businesses of all sizes — from discounted personal training to onsite group sessions at your workplace.
What’s Employee Absenteeism Costing Your Business Right Now?
Here’s a number most North Bay business owners don’t think about: $572. That’s the average annual cost per employee from unplanned absences alone — and that’s the conservative estimate. Factor in disability claims, presenteeism, and turnover replacement costs, and the real number climbs past $1,700 per person per year.
Across Canada, absenteeism costs businesses $16.6 billion annually. Mental health-related absences account for 35 million lost workdays every year. And the employees who do show up? If they’re tired, stressed, or in pain, they’re not performing at their best. That’s called presenteeism, and it costs more than absenteeism does.
You already know this. You see it in missed shifts, slower output, higher turnover, and the constant cost of recruiting and training replacements. What you might not know is how directly — and affordably — a structured employee wellness program can reverse it.

A Corporate Wellness Program Built for North Bay Businesses
Discounted Personal Training
Your employees get access to certified personal trainers at a reduced corporate rate. Each person gets a program built around their goals, their fitness level, and any injuries or limitations they’re managing. This is one-on-one attention from qualified professionals — not a generic workout sheet.
Ideal for: Businesses that want to invest in individual employee health. Works well as a recruitment perk or executive wellness benefit.
Group Training
Bring your team together for scheduled group fitness sessions at our facility on Regina St. Group training builds camaraderie while improving fitness — and it’s more cost-effective per person than individual training. Sessions can be tailored to your team’s fitness levels, from absolute beginners to experienced athletes.
Ideal for: Teams of 5–25. Departments, shifts, or entire companies looking for a shared wellness activity.
Onsite Training at Your Workplace
We come to you. Our trainers deliver fitness sessions at your workplace — in a boardroom, a warehouse floor, a parking lot, or whatever space you have. No gym required. We bring the equipment, the programming, and the energy. This works especially well for shift workers, remote offices, or businesses where leaving the workplace isn’t practical.
Ideal for: Manufacturing facilities, offices, healthcare settings, schools, and any North Bay employer who wants to eliminate the “I don’t have time to get to the gym” excuse.
Corporate Gym Memberships
Give your employees discounted access to The Next Step’s full facility — 24/7 keycard access, all equipment, fitness classes, and our wellness partner network. Corporate membership rates make it affordable for you and accessible for them. Employees train on their own schedule, before work, after work, or on breaks.
Ideal for: Businesses of any size looking for the simplest way to offer a wellness benefit. Low administration. High impact.
This Isn’t a Perk. It’s an Investment with a Measurable Return

These numbers are from Canadian research and Canadian employers. This isn’t American data scaled up. It’s what’s happening in workplaces across the country — including businesses the size of yours.
For a company with 20 employees, even a modest wellness investment can reduce annual absenteeism costs by $5,000–$10,000 while improving output, morale, and retention. The program often pays for itself within the first year.

Built by Amanda Hampel — Not a Corporate Sales Team
When you call a national chain about a corporate wellness program, you get a call centre. When you call The Next Step, you get Amanda.
Amanda Hampel has owned and operated The Next Step Fitness Centre in North Bay since 2001. She holds a Sports Conditioning Diploma and a Fitness & Health Promotion Diploma from Canadore College. She’s a Certified Exercise Physiologist through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (C-SEP) and a CanFitPro certified personal trainer.
Over 25 years, Amanda has trained everyone from competitive athletes to seniors recovering from surgery. She understands what motivates people to move — and what stops them. That’s why TNS’s corporate programs aren’t one-size-fits-all. Amanda designs each program around the real people who’ll be using it.
“Every workplace is different. A mining supply company has different needs than an accounting firm. A hospital shift worker faces different challenges than someone behind a desk all day. I’d rather build something that actually fits than sell you a package off a menu.”

Common Questions About Employee Wellness at The Next Step
How much does an employee wellness program cost?
It depends on your team size, which services you choose, and how the program is structured. We build custom packages — not one-size-fits-all pricing. Contact Amanda directly and we’ll put together a quote based on what makes sense for your business. Most employers are surprised at how affordable it is, especially when you factor in the ROI from reduced absenteeism and higher productivity.
We’re a small business with under 10 employees. Is this still worth it?
Absolutely. Some of our most effective programs serve small teams. In fact, Canadian research shows small businesses often see the highest participation rates and the biggest health improvements from wellness programs. You don’t need a Fortune 500 budget. A simple corporate gym membership or twice-weekly group session can make a real difference.
Can your trainers come to our workplace?
Yes. Onsite training is one of our four program options. Our trainers bring equipment and programming to your location — office, warehouse, shop floor, parking lot, or boardroom. This is especially popular with shift-based businesses and employers outside the downtown core.
Is an employee wellness program tax-deductible?
In most cases, the cost of an employee wellness program is a deductible business expense in Canada. Wellness spending accounts (WSAs) are also an option, though WSA benefits are taxable to the employee. We recommend consulting your accountant for your specific situation. For businesses in Ontario with payroll under $1 million, the Employer Health Tax exemption may also apply.
What’s the difference between this and just giving employees a gym discount?
A gym discount gets people through the door. A wellness program keeps them coming back and actually improving. Our programs include certified personal trainers who build individualized plans, group training that builds team culture, onsite options that remove barriers, and access to our full wellness partner network (massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractic, nutrition). It’s structured behaviour change, not just a perk.
How do you handle employees at different fitness levels?
Every program is individualized. Whether someone hasn’t exercised in 20 years or trains regularly, our certified trainers adjust programming to meet them where they are. Group sessions are designed so everyone participates at their own level. Nobody gets left behind and nobody gets bored.
Can employees also access your wellness partner network?
Yes. Through our wellness services network, employees can access registered massage therapists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, naturopaths, athletic therapists, and more — either on-site at 1370 Regina St or through trusted referral partners in North Bay. Most of these services are covered by extended health benefit plans in Ontario.
Do employees need to come to the gym, or can everything be done onsite?
Both options are available. Employees can use our full facility at 1370 Regina St with 24/7 keycard access, or we bring training to your workplace. Many employers combine both — onsite sessions for the whole team plus gym access for employees who want to train on their own time.
